Lent is a 40-day Christian observance of prayer, fasting, and charitable giving that leads up to Easter. It’s a time of preparation and penitence that reflects Jesus’s time in the wilderness. Holy week in Palestine begins with the 1600 year-old Palm Sunday procession in Jerusalem, following Jesus’ historic entry on a humble donkey two millennia ago. Beautiful, joyous, and pertinent as ever in the oppressive and seemingly hopeless context of year seventy-seven under Israeli occupation. Thousands of Christians united in a smorgasbord of traditions; celebrating and lamenting in various languages and intensities despite the heaviness and despair of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
